Driving Miss Dozy

For the time being, Jen and I have only one car. We plan to buy a second one soon, but for now Jen has to drive me to and from the train.

I prefer to take the 7:13 train because it's a lot less crowded than the one after it (at 7:28) and it gets me into the city a few minutes earlier. In order for me to make the 7:13 train, we need to leave at about 6:45.

I catch the 7:13 maybe once a week. It's not Jen's fault that I miss it -- it's mine. When my alarm goes off at 6:00 I say to my half-conscious self that I'll just take the later train. Snooze.

But if I were to miss the later train, I'd be late to work, and that would be bad. So we need to leave the house at 7:00 the latest. I am usually ready at 6:50. Jen gets up at 6:59. Within 30 seconds, she's out the door yelling, "Don't worry! I've been doing this my whole life! I'll get you there!"

For the 20 minute car ride, my groggy chauffeur stares bleary-eyed at the road, speeding whenever possible and shouting obscenities at other drivers. If I attempt an animated conversation, she puts a hand on my leg and says, "You're too much for me right now. I haven't even had my coffee."

We arrive at the train station in one piece, where she drops me off at the entrance and tells me to have a good day. Yesterday she was so disoriented that she told me to have a good night.

I will be happy when we get a second car, but the drive to the train won't be as fun.

Driving with someone with ADD can be very scary before they have had their coffee.

I have a real hard time limiting my conversation with my spouse before she has had time to orient herself in the morning. Sometimes I initate conversation just to confuse her. ( Is that wrong?)

LOL, yes I think that probably IS wrong, John, but too funny to resist! (My sweetie has learned to bring me coffee and wait quietly until language capability boots up; but HE is the scary driver).

Yes, but my spouse needs to remember that I can can confuse him at 2:00 am when he's asleep and I'm wide awake! ;)
