Jen and I recently had garage door openers installed, something I had always taken for granted until I realized what a pain in the ass life is without them. So we got the openers, and we're very happy. They have a safety feature that causes the door to stop and reverse direction if something gets in the way while it's closing, like a child or a dog or a car.
So Jen and I are in the car, backing out of the garage, and Jen says to me, "Hey, I tested the safety feature. It does reverse direction if it hits something on the way down. Watch," and backs the car under the closing door. It hits the trunk and does, indeed, reverse direction.
And I said, "Honey, the instructions say to test it with a scrap of wood. Not a car."

Oh man, you have it all wrong! It doesn't just reverse direction when it hits something. There is a little laser that runs across the doorway about an inch off the ground. When something crosses the laser, the door reverses direction. (How cool is that?) So I actually tested this theory with *the car tire,* not the car itself.
However, I concede: a peice of wood definitely makes more sense. But when you don't read the directions, you just don't think of these things. :)

But the door actually HIT the car! Good thing it was your car and not mine...

John told me that if we ever get a garage door opener I am not allowed to test it.
