Beat the Clock
Like many ADDers, my partner Jen is bored to death by household responsibilities like cleaning and grocery shopping. Granted, I've never met anyone who looks forward to cleaning and grocery shopping, but most of us grin and bear it. For Jen, a long, unstructured shopping trip can drain her energy for the rest of the day.
Yesterday, Jen came up with a plan. We would go to the supermarket together and each take half the shopping list. Then we would race to "Beat the Clock" and meet each other at the checkout counter in 30 minutes flat. It was brilliant. I nearly had a heart attack trying to find peanut butter, but I made it with all my items in 27 minutes. Jen followed right behind, and we were home less than an hour from the time we left. It was exhilarating to complete a shopping trip that quickly and get on with the day.
We also did what we call a "Power Hour" of cleaning yesterday -- we split up and clean as much as we can in exactly one hour. With both of us cleaning, so much more gets done, and after that hour is up, we don't worry about the rest of the house. Again, exhilarating.
I highly recommend "Power Hour" and "Beat the Clock" to help manage your ADD household.
